World LiteratureHAMLET Test200 points (180 for test answers; 20 for correct documentation of quotations and Works Cited as well as spelling, etc.)Be sure to support your answers with Act.scene.line(s) cited like this:“The time is out of joint” (1.5.210).

1. Hamlet’s relationships with the other characters in the play are complicated. Choose three relationships; analyze how Hamlet is impacted by each (three quotations – one for each relationship). 60 points
Ophelia- He really loves Ophelia and wants her and wants to be with her forever so ,but he also has good friends and will not be with her because she is kinda crazy too. He loves her ,but cant trust her is not very loyal, also he has to act like he is mad at her. At her burial he confesses his love for her. It makes Hamlet sad to see that his love of his life is going crazy and is doing very od and weird thing. She commits suicide after awhile with makes Hamlet sad becaue he never got to show her his real feelings. Ophelia was frightened by Hamlets crazy actions and disturbing behavoir. Ophelia "My Lord, I was sewing in my closet, and to the last ,bended their light on me" (2.1.1)

Gertrude His Mother- He likes his mother and respects her ,but he doesnt like the fact that she didnt mourn very much after his fathers death long enough. After the death she really was sad at the funeral and cried a lot. Hamlet didnt like that right after the funeral she quickly got over hjher grieving which Hamlet thought was weird because he thought maybe she wanted Hamlets father to die. He also doesnt like his mother that much because she is guilty of incest. Hamlet says in one part of the book Animals or beasts grieve longer periods of time then his mother. She also like to drink and party a lot with her new husband Clauduis Hamlets uncle which Hamlet doesnt think is right for his mother to do. "A little month, or ere those were old with which she follow'd my poor fathers body, like Niobe, all tears: why she even she O, God! a beast, that wants discourse of reason. would have mourn longer married my uncle, than i to hercules. (1.2.6)

King Claudias- Hamlet doesnt really like King Cladias because first of all he killed his father and he knows he did it. He also marries his mother which is incest which makes Hamlet very upset and angry he thinks that King Claduis is turning his mother into a evil and a bad person. Hamlet also thinks that Claudias could never live up to what his father was and thinks is father who was compaired to the sun god is a lot better and a lot stronger and smarter of a king. King Claudius "O, 'tis too true! How smart a lash that speech doth give me conscience! The harlot's cheek, beautiful with plastering art, Is not more ugly to the thing that helps it Than is my deed to my most painted word: O heavy burthen!" (3.1.4)

2. Revenge, redemption, loyalty, indecision, love, appearance vs. reality, and betrayal are significant themes in the play. Choose three of these and explain how each theme affects the characters and the outcome of the play (three quotations – one for each theme). 60 points

Revenge- Hamlet goes threw a very hard time in the book because he knows that King Claudias
killed his father which makes him angry if he and upset ,but he wont kill Claudias because he finds lots of reasons not to. He even finds king Claudias praying and hears him praying to God and said that he kill Old Hamlet ,but he will not kill him there because he believes that if he kills Claudias while he is praying he will go straight to heaven and thats not what Hamlet wants he wants him to go to Hell and be punished forever. He wants to kill King Claudias when he is doing something sinful like sleeping with Gertrude in the pleasure of his own bed. Even though Claudias cannot confess his sins proporly to God Hamlet will still not kill him while he is praying to God. "Hamlet now might I do it pat, now he is praying; and now I'll do it. And so he goes to heaven; And so am I revenged. That would be scann'd: A villain kills my father; and for that I, his sole son, do this same villian send To heaven. (3.3.1)

Love-One person that Hamlet shows lots of love to is his father. I think by wanting to kill his uncle and get back at him for what he did to his father shows lots of love because it could also get Hamlet in lots of trouble. Hamlet not killing Claudias shows lots of love towards God even though one of the reasons he doesnt kill him there is because he wants Claudias to go to Hell ,but I also he thinks its wrong and he should not d.o it while he is praying which is showing lots of love for God. He also show lots of love for Ophelia at her funerial. "Then if he loves you, it fits your wisdom so far to believe it as he in his particular act and place May give his saying deed; which is no futher than the main voice of Denmark goes withal. Then weigh what loss your honour may sustain, Or lose your heart, or your chaste treasure open to his unmaster'd(1.1.3)
